Delays in business lending are often caused by information issues rather than credit issues. These are some of the most common, and most avoidable.
Incomplete documentation
Missing tax returns, an outdated interim statement, or an absent personal financial statement can stall a file until the gap is filled.
Numbers that don’t reconcile
Differences between tax returns, internal financial statements, and the debt schedule prompt questions. Reconciling them before submission saves time.
An unclear use of proceeds
Lenders need to know exactly what the funds will pay for. Vague requests lead to follow-up questions and re-work.
Unexplained items
Revenue dips, one-time expenses, tax liens, or prior credit events are easier to address with a short, upfront explanation.
Equity that can’t be verified
When equity is required, lenders must verify its source. Funds moved recently or without documentation can create delays.
Third-party reports
Appraisals, environmental reports, and business valuations take time. Knowing early which reports are needed lets them be ordered promptly.
